1981
The first Academy opens in Baltimore County, Maryland; a 5,000 square foot space with a capacity of 86 children.
The first version of the proprietary Kiddie Academy® Curriculum launches through the efforts of Co-Founder Pauline Miller.
1983
The second Academy opens in Baltimore County, Maryland; a 4,000 square foot freestanding building with a capacity of 64 children.
Kiddie Academy moves into it's first Corporate Office; a 1,200 square foot building.
1984
The third Academy opens in Baltimore County, Maryland; a 5,000 square foot space with a capacity of 100 children.
Michael Miller, son of founders George and Pauline Miller, joins Kiddie Academy.
1985
The second updated version of the proprietary Kiddie Academy Curriculum is launched.
1986
The fourth Academy opens in Baltimore County, Maryland; a 7,000 square foot space with a capacity of 120 children.
1988
The fifth Academy opens using the first freestanding prototype building. This 6,500 square foot academy, with a capacity of 100 children, is located in Harford County, Maryland.
1989
During this year, the sixth and seventh Academy open on the same day, each having a capacity of 120 children.
1991
Kiddie Academy Corporate outgrows its current office space and relocates to a second corporate office; a 10,000 square foot office building in Harford County, Maryland. This building was built and designed specifically for the company's needs at the time.
1992
Under the leadership of George Miller, Co-Founder, Kiddie Academy obtains Federal Trade Commission approval to franchise The Kiddie Academy® system. During this year, the first versions of operational manuals and training programs are developed.
1993
Kiddie Academy® awards the first franchise agreement; the franchisee is located in the state of Maryland.
1994
The first franchised Academy opens in Elkton, Maryland; a 6,000 square foot prototype building with a capacity of 100 children.
1995
During this year, the third version of the proprietary Kiddie Academy Curriculum is launched.
1996
Founders, George and Pauline Miller retire from day-to-day operations, son Michael Miller takes over leadership of the company.
The first Academy franchise opens outside of the state of Maryland.
1997
The second Academy building prototype version opens in Harford County
Maryland; a 7,200 square foot academy with a capacity of 140 children.
This is the first Academy to offer full-time infant and toddler care.
1999
During this year, Kiddie Academy launches the first generation of its website. This site features information about our educational child care services as well as information about the Kiddie Academy franchise opportunity.
2000
A new Kiddie Academy proprietary summer program, Camp Adventure is launched and incorporated into Kiddie Academy's main curriculum.
2001
Kiddie Academy's 7,000 page proprietary Curriculum receives Library of Congress copyright.
2003
Kiddie Academy's original website from 1999, is replaced this year with a new generation of Kiddie Academy® website.
2005
To further supplement support and communication within the Kiddie Academy community, the first generation of The Kiddie Academy® intranet website is launched. This comprehensive academy resource website is called the Kiddie Academy Reference and Electronic Support system; it's known to our community as KARES.
2006
The year 2006, marks a terrific milestone for Kiddie Academy®; we celebrate our 25th year of providing educational based child care.
2007
After several years of development on paper, Kiddie Academy launches its third prototype academy design. This state of the art academy includes many amenities such as full kitchen, community center, owner's office and much more.
Outgrowing the office building built in 1991, Kiddie Academy Corporate relocates to its third Corporate Office; a 24,440 square foot custom designed office building in Harford County, Maryland. This modern facility hosts large training rooms, meeting rooms, kitchenette, employee gym and much more.
Always evolving, Kiddie Academy launches its third generation of Kiddie Academy® website. In addition to giving you information about Kiddie Academy, this website is a great resource tool.
Kiddie Academy obtains accreditation by The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).
2008
During this year, the first academy to utilize the third academy prototype opens in League City, TX with a capacity of 177 children.
The Kiddie Academy proprietary and copyrighted Curriculum version four is launched. This version of The Kiddie Academy® Curriculum introduces Life Essentials® Life Essentials represents our educational philosophy, our curriculum, and supporting programs and techniques that help prepare children for life.
During this year, the KARES intranet system is completely upgraded to include additional on-line tools for the Kiddie Academy community.
During this year, Kiddie Academy launches an informative video brochure, and television and radio commercials which can be viewed on the website and used in local marketing.
2009
Kiddie Academy celebrates another milestone with the opening of our 100th franchised academy.
Kiddie Academy develops a proactive social media presence.
2010
Kiddie Academy airs the "Too Happy" commercial on nationwide cable channels and Public Broadcasting System.
Kiddie Academy increases web presence through a nationwide pay per click campaigns.
eLearning web site is launched to provide educationally approved web sites to academies and families.
